I help mission-driven founders and organizations find and share the stories worth telling.

The OakTREE Initiative
The co-founders of OakTREE, an Oakland nonprofit building community-owned thermal energy networks, came to me with the need to get their core message about the need for community-owned thermal energy infrastructure in front of funders. They'd had little press up until this point, and both founders had been deep in the technical, mission-driven aspects of their story for years.
Their ideal audience was interested in the technical, mission-driven policy, but only if it was wrapped in storytelling about why it mattered. Together, we engaged in a central question: Why had they decided community-owned thermal energy infrastructure could unlock change where national policy couldn't? It turned out, they had a great story to tell about how they'd decided to stop waiting for federal policy change and start building something block by block, using new technology innovations and old-fashioned community organizing.
I developed that narrative with both co-founders and placed the resulting essay in Nonprofit Quarterly, a national outlet that reaches millions in the sector across print and digital. Being nimble, flexible and determined allowed us to reach the exact audience my clients wanted.
Read the published piece“Her craft is unmatched, and it's paired with an incredible ability to project manage and keep things easy for us as clients.”

About me
For twelve years I was a columnist and editorial writer at the San Francisco Chronicle, including a stretch as Deputy Opinion Editor commissioning and editing outside op-eds — I know what makes an editor say yes, because I was the editor saying it. From 2020 to 2025, I was a senior internal communications manager at Genentech, translating complex science and organizational change for a large employee and contractor audience.
Since 2026, I've been running an independent communications practice, helping mission-driven founders and organizations find their story and get it in front of the right audience. Across newsrooms, nonprofit organizations, biotech, and clean energy, I've learned how to help founders and organizations in highly regulated or technically complex spaces say clearly and confidently what they actually mean. Based in San Francisco.
Let's talk.
If you're building something real and need help saying it clearly, I'd like to hear about it.
